Martin Assig translates his personal universe of thoughts and observations into colorful, abstract and organic drawings and paintings which are often combined with text. They each revolve around the human body and the being itself. The catalogue was published on the occasion of the exhibition Seele. Saal. at Gallery Haas Zurich and brings together among others his drawings from the series Seelen.

Bode Museum (Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz)

Visual profile, printed matters, ads, social media

The exhibition SCREEN by Theodoulos Polyviou is the first expansive multimedia installation commissioned the Skulpturensammlung und Museum für Byzantinische Kunst that engages with an object from the collection from a contemporary artistic perspective. SCREEN is the latest instalment in a series of works by the artist titled Transmundane Economies. For this ongoing project, Theodoulos Polyviou has developed immersive installations that examine the cultural heritage of his native country of Cyprus from a queer perspective.

The starting point of the exhibition is an 18th-century iconostasis. The artist has created a digital 3D reproduction of the iconostasis, which he has embedded in a site-specific audiovisual installation. SCREEN unfolds as a series of animated virtual environments that engage with the known and unknown histories around the object. As a dividing element in a Christian Orthodox church in Cyprus, the iconostasis once framed depictions of saints and was positioned to conceal the sanctuary from the congregation in the nave.

In this new work, Polyviou sees the iconostasis not as a dividing element but instead as a portal which is reflected in the visual profile by the square-shaped key element: a white square as well as a cut-out according to the used media. Commissioned lidar scans of the original church building in Cyprus are used for the imagery.

Visual Identity, Poster, Flyer, Social Media

Duo exhibition by Penny Monogiou and Laure Boer. In a space and sound installation, the artists showed their own works as well as a large-scale textile collage they created together. The artist duo Mahnke/Hoffmann provided curatorial support and complemented the exhibition with a bar installation. Thanks to the Consul General of Cyprus, Andreas Kyriacou, for attending the opening and concert.

What is it about motherhood that frightens the art world? What reactions do female artists who have recently become mothers face when they reflect on their experiences in their work? Between divinity and eroticism, tender mother figure and sexy power being — the exhibition plays with questions about motherhood in the art world. Images of Madonnas have adorned European art museums and history books for centuries. The need to depict Maria lactans, the breastfeeding mother of God, was so strong that it developed into a genre of its own. Nevertheless, motherhood remains a critical theme in art to this day.

ETH Zurich

Visual identity, coding, poster series

Our long time client Céline Baumann got a guest professorship at ETH Zurich, the Architecture Department, D-Arch. In fall 2023 her seminar, at ETH Zurich called studio, was about how rhizomatic structures may allow us to act upon broad territories in order to shape ecological and climatic corridors for humans and non-humans alike. Apart from developing the visual profile we coded a little program, which creates the imagery for the poster series: a rhizhome as an ever growing structure. The topic for the spring semester 2024 is Concrete Garden. The students will investigate the qualities and potential of this spontaneous urban nature, a topic that has seen renewed interest in recent years.

Since the 70ties, Gerd Rohling has been equally devoted to object art and painting. A perfect example is the installation Wasser und Wein at the Venice Biennale in 2001 curated by Harald Szeemann or in the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin (with a transformation of plastic waste into antique glass vessels). Gerd Rohling lives and works in Berlin. His works have been exhibited, mostly in connection with residences at various biennials or in museums around the world like in Italy, Africa, India, Brazil and in Germany. The catalogue shows works from the past 30 years and is published on the occasion of a double show at Gallery Haas Zurich and Berlin. Features a customized typeface.

MKM Museum Küppersmühle für Moderne Kunst Duisburg

Visual Identity, book design, posters, lettering

500 works on 1100 sqm – The first big retrospective of Martin Assig “Weil ich Mensch bin” in the absolutely stunning MKM Museum Küppersmühle, built by Herzog & de Meuron.

Besides the show’s identity and poster we did the catalogue “Weil ich Mensch bin.” It is published by Schirmer/Mosel and turned out to be an actual artist monograph, grouping works from the last 24 years to thematical clusters such as “Exercises in Wonder,” “Stock Pile. World” or “Aura Authors.” On 312 pages the bilingual, German/English hardcover book contains 236 paintings and drawings as well as essays by Wolfgang Ullrich and Kay Heymer and a conversation between the museum’s director Walter Smerling and the artist.
